In a spirited live recording, the Handel and Haydn Society performs early and late works by Haydn, showing his maturation as an orchestral composer.
As one of the most prolific composers of the Classical era, Joseph Haydn has to his résumé over one hundred symphonies. Though each work may be enjoyed thoroughly on its own, looking at his symphonic catalog collectively allows one to observe the evolution of his symphonies, each becoming more complex as time passes. Under the direction of Harry Christophers, the Boston-based ensemble performs his 8th and 84th Symphonies – examples of both his early and late symphonic repertoire – plus a violin concerto showcasing Concertmaster Aisslinn Nosky.
